RSCMUN Calgary 2018 [pronounced RISK-MUN] is a unique simulation of a reformed United Nations Security Council hosted by the University of Calgary Model United Nations Team (UCMUNT). After intensive study of the 2005 Kofi Annan Plan and the various factors that contributed to the resolution failing to pass in the General Assembly (UNGA), the founders of RSCMUN have devised a 65 member security council, with 30 new permanent members, and a special veto system that allows the permanent five (P5) to maintain their vetoes, but grant vetoes to the new permanent members.
Hosted in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, RSCMUN is aimed at beginner through advanced delegates and hopes to be educational, professional, and act as an introduction to crisis committees. As a result, RSCMUN is open to both secondary and post-secondary students. Although only simulating one committee, RSCMUN provides two sets of awards – one for first time delegates and those for the more experienced. Between a set of modern topics, a unique committee design, and a balance of General Assembly and Crisis Committee, RSCMUN promises to have something in store for everyone. Register with us today by contacting our secretariat at rscmun.ucalgary@gmail.com. Or feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns. Delegate fees will be $50, and breakfast, lunch and snacks will be included.
